IT dozen get any better than this for a Vale of Clwyd club!

Twelve hardy junior Denbigh Harriers ran the third fixture of the North Wales Junior Cross Country League at Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay.

The weather was the truly awful during the races with a mixture of sleet, rain and strong winds.

Underfoot, the conditions were atrocious on the surprisingly hilly terrain that made it hard going on courses of between 2.5k and 4k dependant on age.

Full credit to all the 100 young athletes from across North Wales that took part in the competition.

The Denbigh Harriers U15 boys were the first team on the day in a tight race against Colwyn Bay.

There were some other great individual results in the different races with some of the Harriers racing against children almost two years older than them.

Other clubs in the league have realised that Denbigh Harriers are an up-and-coming force to be reckoned with.

The relatively new Denbigh Harrier junior section trains twice a week, lead by a team of Welsh Athletics-qualified coaches.

Three Harriers finished in the top-10 in the U15 boys' race - Ellis Jones (fifth in 15.26), Arthur Jones (sixth in 15.32) and Ted Conry (ninth in 15.54).

Rafa Whitley was 13th in 19.29, while Georgia Gratton (19.09) crossed the line 13th in the U15 girls' event.

Harriers in the U13 boys' competition were Arran White (10th in 14.54) and Josh Jones (14th in 19.47), while the U13 girls' section saw Flora Jones (10th in 11.27) and Meri Roche (14th in 12.23) in action.

Henry Jones was fifth in the U11 boys' race in 10.29.

It was also a very wet and windy day for the Run Wales five and 10-mile races in Rhyl.

This race also hosted the North Wales 10-miles regional championships.

Four hardy Harriers ran, with two of them bringing home a North Wales championship medal.

Lucy Lewis won the second senior women's medal and Catherine Tudor Jones was the first F40.

Julie Roberts also had a strong run as part of her training for the Cardiff Half Marathon.

Ten-mile race: 45, Catherine Tudor Jones 1-10.50 (3rd F40 overall and 1st F40 NW Championships); 161, Lucy Lewis 1-30.28 (2nd SW North Wales championship); 191, Julie Roberts 1-35.21.

Simon Nixon, returning from injury, had a great run in the five-mile race finishing 20th in a time of 37.27.
