DENBIGH Harriers Tony Wood and Mel Morris took on the challenge of Out-fit’s 100k race on Saturday.

It was a fantastic, well organised event from Joe Cooper, that saw a small but competitive field that included many experienced ultra runners including the overall winner Charlotte Beddow.

The 100km route involved 8,000ft of ascent, and followed the Waymarked 'North Wales Path' - providing lots of variety in terms of terrain.

Tony had a spectacular run, really showing off his running strength and using the last 10 miles to bring out the energy reserves and fly to the finish for fourth place (third male overall) in 13-52.39.

Mel had to dig deep for the final 10 miles but finished a brilliant eighth overall (second female) in 14-24.33.

Mike Hobday and Menai Baugh travelled to Nant Peris to race the Pen Dinas fell race last Tuesday evening.

This is, probably, one of the toughest races in the Tuesday Evening Fell Race Series with a mile long unrelenting, steep climb of 1,463ft / 446m to the summit, followed by a mile of very steep descent.

Mike finished 46th out of 82 runners in a time of 39.30 (third MV60), with Menai (69th) the third F60 in 46.33.

There were great conditions for the Friday evening Mid Cheshire 5k spring race.

Shaun Hughes had a superb performance with a time of 16.31, while Emma Collins also had a fantastic race to finish in 20.59 and take the second V55 spot.

The Red Kite trail half marathon was held in perfect conditions on the rolling hills and forestry tracks around Devil’s Bridge in Ceredigion on Saturday. The race was also the Welsh Athletics Trail Championships race, so it was well attended with athletes from all over Wales and beyond.

Three Denbigh Harriers competed on the hilly course that was half-a-mile longer than the normal 13.1-mile half-marathon distance and climbed an arduous 2,700 feet.

David Baugh was first home in two hours and nine minutes and he was the third M60.

Duncan Jones had a welcome return to competition after injury to finish in 2-20.

Menai Baugh finished as second F60 in 2-39 despite the onset of cramp.

Fred Jones ran the 10k version of the course, which was actually 2k over distance, and he was the second M65 in 1-16.
