THERE'S a national final for talented Denbighshire footballers to look forward to.

Next Thursday, May 19, the U15 girls' team from Ysgol Glan Clwyd will be playing in the Welsh Schools final.

They will now face Milford Haven School in the final at Caersws FC after a hugely successful campaign.

The team, comprising of pupils from years nine and 10, claimed victories versus Ysgol Brynhyfryd, Ysgol Dinas Bran and Hawarden High School to open the Welsh Schools competition.

This saw them through to the last-16, where they defeated Ysgol Y Moelwyn 9-1.

Since then, the miserly Glan Clwyd side hasn't conceded a goal.

In a tough quarter-final, Glan Clwyd saw off Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy 2-0.

Then, in the semi-finals, there was a 4-0 triumph versus Penglais.

"The girls have showed determination, passion and rewarding teamwork throughout the competition and fully deserve their place in the final," said Arwyn Jones, head of PE at Ysgol Glan Clwyd.

"The support from the girls, the parents and the school has been exceptional, and it is a privilege to know a team with such a strong spirit and relationship like these girls.

"Some of the girls were Welsh champions three years ago in the same competition, winning in the final and being able to represent Wales in the competition against England, Ireland and Scotland.

"We’d like to wish the girls all the best in the final, and hope that the cup comes back once again up to the north."
