IT'S not often you score more than 280 and end up squeaking a narrow win.

However, that's what happened to St Asaph on Sunday.

The North Wales Cricket League high-flyers hosted Shrewsbury in the National Knockout.

Batting first, the Saints accumulated a mammoth 283 for three from their 40 overs.

Skipper Will Ryan (108) and Duncan Midgley (124) compiled a stunning opening partnership of 220.

Shrewsbury weren't about to fold, though, and in their reply they ended up on 282 for nine.

There were three wickets for Dan Ryan, two wickets for Gareth Goodson and one apiece for Jurie Norval, Jason Foulkes, Jack Griffiths and Elliott Morris.

St Asaph will travel to Longton in the next round.
