A CRACKING batting display means that Denbigh remain clear at the top of the North Wales Cricket League Division One rankings.

After a seventh win of the season at Bangor, Division One frontrunners Denbigh can still boast a 15-point advantage over the chasing pack.

Denbigh skipper Tom Schrimshaw won the toss and he made the correct decision to bat first.

Openers Sam Lewis and Darren Nixon set the ball rolling in terrific fashion for the visitors, compiling a first wicket stand of 120.

Lewis was the first to depart for 55, while Nixon struck 64.

Continuing the partnership theme, skipper Schrimshaw and Andy Clarke then put on 66 for the fourth wicket.

It came quickly too, with Schrimshaw's 40 arriving from just 26 deliveries.

An unbroken stand of 45 between Clarke and Andy Thomas (11 not out) guided Denbigh to 242 for five from their 45 overs.

Clarke would finish on a fine 53 not out from just 38 deliveries.

Denbigh's bowlers then did a good job to keep the home reply in check, with Bangor realising 161 for eight from their 45 overs.

Opener Christopher Dawson (48) was the main contributor, as Sam Lewis completed a fine all-round showing by taking 4-24.

Also among the wickets were Andy Clarke (2-27), Alec Lewis (1-26) and Joe Lewis (1-37).
