SATURDAY saw eight Denbigh Harriers take on the Welsh 1000’s race.

The Welsh 1000m Race is one of the most historic and challenging fell races in North Wales and in the UK, and has featured as a championship race many times and takes in some of the iconic summits and ridges in northern Snowdonia.

The long course takes in all five of the 1,000m peaks in Snowdonia including Yr Wyddfa.

Meanwhile, the short course takes in three of the 1,000m peaks and is still a challenging race.

The clag was low over Abergwyngregyn for the start of the long course, making visability on the Carneddau difficult, but it cleared up throughout the morning for a hot, sunny finish up Yr Wyddfa.

Tony Wood was the highest placed Harrier finishing 27th in 5-22.48, followed closely by Dafydd Evans in 28th in 5-23.26.

Sioned Griffiths and Katy Baugh were also close on the leaderboard with Sioned finishing 57th in 6-10.11 and Katy 61st in 6-17.18.

David Baugh improved on his 2021 time by finishing 72nd in 6-36.03, with smiling duo Peter Lester-Owen and David Owen Jones finishing 98th and 99th in 7-57.34 and 7-59.13 respectively.

Mike Hobday opted for the short course, starting at Ogwen and also finishing on Yr Wyddfa.

Mike finished 19th overall and the second M60 in 2-47.12.

There was a good turnout of Harriers at the first Ruthin Parkrun on Saturday, with excellent times achieved on this flat, fast course.

Mark Kelly was sixth over the line in 19.34, followed by Emma Collins (21st in 21.30), Simon Nixon (24th in 21.54) and Duncan Jones (29th in 22:25).

Sian Pritchard (47th) gained a personal best of 24.10, with Roger Snaith 60th in 24.59 and John Llewelyn Thomas 221st in 55.31.

At Alderford Lake, Tony Benton finished 22nd in 24.23, while in Prestatyn, Ian Jones was 21st in 25.01.
