WEEK THREE in the Denbigh and District Darts League saw some great A-League tussles as two sides remained unbeaten.

The Masons' unblemished winning record looked under severe threat as they found themselves 4-3 down to the winless Railway B with two ties left.

However, the second-placed outfit turned things around with a Shane Evans victory and a last game win by former Clwyd county ace Pete Lewis to save their blushes.

A ninth and final tie win by doubles partners Daf Roberts and Steve Jones gave Railway A a first victory of the campaign as Golden Lion A pushed them all the way in another 5-4 thriller.

Jones secured an important 180 in the final match.

Wings A are in sublime form as they made it three wins from as many games.

Youngster Michael Roberts guaranteed the points in the sixth game, however the spirited Golden Lion B rattled off the final three ties to give the scoreline a 5-4 look to the high-flying Wings outfit.

It was week two of B-League action as Wings B carried on their unbeaten form with a 5-2 success at The Salusbury Arms.

The Hand Inn won in the first week, but they were given a 6-1 caning by White Lion A on their own patch.

Meanwhile, White Lion B tasted victory with a 4-3 verdict over The Conservative Club.

It was a welcome tungsten return in Ruthin as they got their first official darts league up and running for the first time in some two decades.

Daf Vaughan, the landlord of The Park Place, was instrumental in organising the Ruthin mini league with six teams entering the competition.

In fitting style the league was decided on the very last evening of fixtures as The Farmers held a one-point advantage over the Red Lion, of Cyffylliog, with them meeting eachother in a last game shootout.

The Red started strongly with Robin Jones downing double-troubled Gethin Roberts, but the Farmers levelled next up with a strong showing from Dave Cooke.

Jack Jones and Nick Hailes wins put the Farmers on the cusp of victory and it was left to Clwyd county ace Dave Davies to seal the trophy as he recorded a fabulous 14-darter in his game to hand the buoyant Farmers the title.

The Ruthin league hopes to install a full winter league programme in September with all pubs in the town and the surrounding area welcomed to join.
