BERSHAM strengthened their North Wales Cricket League Division Two promotion hopes via a maximum points triumph at home to Ruthin.

Looking to finish in the top-two this summer, Bersham won by nine wickets as Ruthin slipped back into the dropzone.

Batting first on the day, Ruthin will have felt confident of picking up a point or two after they set 137 for five from their 40 overs.

Leading the way with the blade was Murray Whitehead, with his knock of 39, well supported by the likes of Dafydd Roberts (28), Jac Evans (23), Gareth Beach (12 not out) and Josh Duckworth (12).

Bersham's bowlers were disciplined, conceding only six extras, with Suresh Lakmal Koswaththage picking up 2-23.

Koswaththage would go on to complete a fine all-round showing with an undefeated knock of 79 as the home side responded with 141 for one.

Jac Evans (1-18) picked up the only wicket to fall.
