THROUGHOUT the season at Denbigh Golf Club competition winners have been dominated by the 20+ handicappers.

The club addresses this by having two divisions – silver for the men with handicaps up to 16 and bronze for players with handicaps of 17 and over.

The full results are, however, dominated by the upper category and with little reduction to their handicaps as it reflects the best eight scores from the last 20 recorded.

Low handicap players are a small minority these days and the main disadvantage exhibits itself in matchplay where a full differential favours the high handicapper.

Is there a better system?

The winner of the gents' Brere Foster Trophy competition at the club on Saturday was 21-handicapper with eight-up.
