DENBIGH Harriers had to deal with the heat, as well as the altitude, at a popular event.

Ras yr Wyddfa, the 47th Snowdon International Race, was run on a sweltering day from Llanberis to the summit and back after a two-year delay.

The well supported race had 45 international elite runners representing all the home countries, the Republic of Ireland and Italy, giving the approximate 400 starters a real atmosphere to run in.

This event is literally a race of two halves with just less than five miles of unremitting uphill followed by the same distance down over a rocky and technically difficult downhill in a rush to the finish.

Denbigh Harrier Tony Wood continued his splendid form by finishing 64th after equally strong uphill and downhill efforts.

Dafydd Evans had a good uphill race but suffered in the heat on the downhill legs, finishing exhausted in 113th place.

Katy Baugh was next home, showing her continued improved performance with a controlled uphill race and fast descent passing many runners to finish as the 27th female and 135th overall.

Katy was followed by some distance by her father, David Baugh, in 173rd who managed to have a good descent passing Mel Morris (180th, 31st female) and Owen Conry in 181st.

Elen Baugh had a great race despite a lack of training finishing as 39th female in 218th.

Huw Williams was similarly undertrained for the race and was delayed as he attended to a seriously injured runner on the downhill section.

Huw continued his race to finish in 270th.

Menai Baugh had a fast descent to finish in 320th and as the third F60.
