IT'S been a successful start to the new season for Corwen.
They returned from a Welsh Cup first qualifying round trip to Castell Alun Colts with a 2-1 success.
The tie took place on a rock solid playing surface, with a strong wind blowing across the pitch.
Following a goalless first half, Corwen eventually got their noses in front.
Delwyn Jones was able to collect the ball from a defensive header and his shot took a bounce, which deceived home keeper Ben Jones.
Four minutes later and the visitors doubled their advantage from a move straight from the training ground.
Scott Evans floated a free kick into the Castell Alun box, where Ryan Billington was the first to the ball and his header went beyond Ben Jones.
An own goal in stoppage time saw Castell Alun's hopes rejuvenated, but they could not find a second goal to force a penalty shootout.
