A COMMUNITY group is on the look out for a new home after doubling in size.

Currently based at Meliden Community Centre in Prestatyn, the group are on the search for larger premises in North Wales – preferably in either Denbighshire or Flintshire so they can remain central – to enable the storage of more donations.

Group founder Brian Taylor from Prestatyn said: "The continued generosity of people means the space we currently have available has gotten quite full - particularly for larger items, such as beds, sofas or kitchen appliances.

"We are often having to either hope the donor can hang on them until we have a home for them or say we’re unable to take it, which is a shame as literally the next day someone could get referred who desperately needs a washing machine but if we’ve said no to it, it could have then been given or sold to someone else."

The current space at Meliden Community Centre is around 1,500sqft which includes a main room, a smaller room which houses the food bank and a small office.

Brian added: “Ideally we’d be looking for at least 2,000sqft so we have plenty of storage available and don’t have to turn any kind donation offers down. This can be anywhere in Denbighshire or Flintshire as that allows us to remain fairly central in North Wales.”

Love: North Wales Community Support group started during the initial Covid-19 pandemic as a Facebook group, which has almost doubled in size since its inception with nearing 8,000 members.

The group works alongside various local support groups such as various charities, agencies and charitable groups like DASU (domestic abuse) The Wallich (Homeless) Kaleidoscope (ex-offenders) Warm Wales, Denbighshire Homeless Unit and many more.

Brian said: “If anyone has or knows of any premises that might be suitable for us, please do contact me directly. This can either be via the Love: North Wales Community Support Facebook page, email me at lovenorthwales@gmail.com or call on 01745 850400.”

Love: North Wales Community Support group is also continuing to raise funds for a much-needed van, which in turn will also benefit Idlewild Animal Sanctuary in Conwy Valley who are selling the van so they can purchase an animal ambulance in order to run their new animal hospital. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for any interested North Wales businesses.
