ARE you a Priscilla Sitienei, the great-great-grandmother from Kenya who enrolled in primary school at the age of 90, or a Mary Wesley, who wrote 10 bestsellers including The Camomile Lawn after she was 70, or perhaps a Sir Ranulph Fiennes who climbed Everest at 60?

A special group welcomed visitors to their stall at last weekend's Bryneglwys Show, near Corwen.

Berwyn & District U3A (University of the Third Age), a society for retired or semi-retired like-minded people who want to share their knowledge and learn new skills, encouraged newcomers to join its various groups and to make the best use of the time in their hands.

The U3A has 10 different groups: art and crafts, geology, literature, strollers, table tennis, 'backyard chickens', IT & digital photography, local history and archaeology, summer garden visits and a walking group.

Each group holds monthly meetings at the Canolfan Ni, on day trips or in members' homes.

Isabel Stewart, group facilitator for Bewyn & District U3A who was at the Bryneglwys event, said: "Many people are lonely or have a lot of time on their hands to take up a new interest.

"A lot of people think they can't learn new skills when they get to a certain age, but I'm an ex-nurse who follows geology because I'm interested in it."

The Berwyn & District group has 54 members that includes former professors, scientists, teachers and nurses looking to learn new skills.

Ms Stewart added: "You don't need a degree or other qualification to get involved - if you would like to learn to knit or play the piano there will be a group of like-minded people to share knowledge with.

"It is very friendly and there is no leader. The aim is to share ideas."
