DENBIGH’s Elite Martial Arts club has won a prestigious award.

It has been recognised as the Denbighshire Sports Club of the Year. The award was given at the Denbighshire 2018 Sports Awards Ceremony in Llangollen, which recognises achievements and contributions in all sports.

One of the students who attended was black belt Siobhan Levins, aged 11, a pupil of St Bridgit’s school, Denbigh who said: I am very proud of the club and how hard everyone worked as a team to achieve the award”.

The club was set up by Graham Field in 2000. Graham has lived in Denbigh for more than 30 years and wanted to give something to the community. Hence he started the club to promote martial arts and fitness for all ages, and to give children and adults confidence and life skills.

Unknown to Graham, there was a special surprise for him on the awards night. Rugby sports star, Rachel Taylor, the evening’s host, gave him a Lifetime Achievement to Sport award.

He said: “It means so much knowing that the club has been recognised for all its hard work and dedication to the community over the past years. We have been lucky enough to help lots of people gain confidence and to believe in themselves”.
