A MISSED opportunity marked the opening weekend of 2019 PDC action for Mark Webster.

He joined the great and the good of the PDC in Wigan to compete in two Players' Championship events.

Saturday saw Mark make it through to the last-64, while a disappointing first round loss marked Sunday's spot of action.

Turning to Saturday first and Webster averaged 96 to ease to a 6-1 success over Kirk Shepherd in his first competitive PDC match of 2019.

Starting in blistering fashion, Webster was able to race into a 3-0 lead.

Shepherd took the fourth leg of the encounter, but Mark closed out the match in terrific fashion, winning the next three legs in 14, 14 and 13 darts.

Webster came up against a ton-plus average in his second round meeting with Peter Wright.

A 103.7 average gave Wright a comfortable 6-1 win and none of the legs were won in more than 15 darts.

After Wright won the opener, Webster hit back to brilliantly take the next leg in 11 darts.

That's as good as it got for Mark, though, with Wright winning the next five legs.

World number one Michael van Gerwen continued his winning start to 2019 by claiming the title with an 8-4 triumph over Jermaine Wattimena in the final.

Turning to Sunday and Webster let slip a winning position in his first round meeting.

Taking on South African Devon Petersen, Webster lost the first two legs, but he was on the verge of victory after claiming five out of the next six legs.

However, Peterson would go on to claim the closing three legs to seal the narrowest of victories.

Peterson completed his triumph by taking out 115 in the deciding leg.

Dave Chisnall ended his 18-month wait for a title with a dramatic 8-7 victory over Glen Durrant in the final.

Mighty Masons A bagged a maximum 10-point haul as they stayed top of the Denbigh and District Darts League in Week 10.

They put Golden Lion B to the sword 8-0, with veteran darter Roger Jones grabbing a 105 finish.

The Wingmen were made to work hard for their 6-2 win over a gutsy Kinmel Arms A.

Elsewhere, the in-form Wings A continued their red hot run with a 7-1 win at Hand Inn A.

Masons B got the better of Golden Lion A 5-3 to conclude the A-League action.

The unpredictable Hand Inn B ruined Wings B's unbeaten record with a fabulous 6-2 victory over the B-League leaders.

Golden Lion C closed in on the Wings B at the top of the table with a great 6-2 victory over White Lion B.

The Cons Clubs travelled to Llandyrnog to face Kinmel Arms B and they came home with seven points after a 5-3 victory.

Railway B and the Plough Inn played out an entertaining 4-4 draw.
