NEW life was delivered when a school visited a farm.

Lucky pupils from Ysgol Bro Idris have witnessed a ewe giving birth during their exciting visit to Meirionnydd NFU Cymru chair Emlyn Roberts’ farm near Dolgellau.

Pupils of the school were invited to the fully-funded farm visit as part of their prize for winning the NFU’s national STEM competition, Farmvention, in January.

The second part of their prize was a school visit by a chef.

NFU Cymru county adviser for Meirionnydd, Mid Gwynedd and Anglesey Iestyn Pritchard also attended the visit.

He said: “NFU Cymru is committed to educating the next generation on where their food comes from and re-connecting the public with grassroots farming.

"From the class of 29 children who visited the farm, only a few came from farming backgrounds and many had never stepped foot on a farm – but they all enjoyed learning more about farm life and how to care for animals.

“Following the visit, pupils had activity books, NFU Cymru bags and goodies to take home with them, however, farm sheepdog Cymro wasn’t allowed back on the bus, to all the children’s disappointment!

“Congratulations again to Dosbarth y Gleision, Ysgol Bro Idris, for winning the Farmvention competition.”

Teleri Mai Jones, of Dosbarth y Gleision at Ysgol Bro Idris, added: “We had a great morning on the farm and everyone very much enjoyed the experience.

"The highlight of the trip was seeing twins being born before our eyes.

"That was perfect timing and an unforgettable experience for the town children. Thank you for the opportunity and for organising a fantastic visit.”
