A SURGERY that has nearly 3,000 patients could close as part of a plan to relocate and expand its services at a nearby community hospital.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) is set to present a business case for the redevelopment of Ruthin Community Hospital, which would involve the closure of The Clinic, on Mount Street, Ruthin after it was decided "not fit for purpose".

BCUHB says the redevelopment would allow it to provide a wider range of services at the community hospital.

The plan is expected to be presented to BCUHB board members "in the near future" with the aim of starting the redevelopment this year.

The surgery's staff, three GPs and a practice nurse, are also expected to move to the community hospital.

A spokesperson for BCUHB said: “We are working with the team at Mount Street Clinic to relocate services from its current location, which are not fit for purpose. Our preferred option would be to invest in redevelopment work at Ruthin Community Hospital so that an increased range of services could be provided from the site.

“We expect a business case to be presented to the board in the near future. If approved, the business case would then be submitted to Welsh Government for consideration, with a view to start any redevelopment work later this year.”
