A 300-ACRE farm is set to hold an open day to introduce families to farm life and where their food comes from.

Plas Dolben Farm, in Llangynhafal, near Denbigh, includes woodland, ponds and a mountain which are home to farm animals including 400 breeding ewes, 60 beef cattle, two sows, sheep and chickens.

Behind-the-scenes tours around the farm will be led by farmer Rhian Pierce, who will discuss her work rearing the animals, as well as looking after wildlife including badgers, birds such as Redstarts, Skylarks, black grouse, owls and jays, and a diversity of insects.

Mrs Pierce said: “We want families to come along and learn about the farm, how we work and where their food comes from. There will be a behind-the-scenes tour of the farm when people will be able to meet some of the animals, as well as activities such as pond dipping, soil minibeast hunts and sheep shearing.

“There will also be an environmental aspect to the event with a planting session in our wildflower garden and a talk about bees and birdlife, because farming is not just about cows and sheep but conservation too.”

The open day takes place from 11am-3pm on June 9.

The walks start at 12pm and 2pm.

Entry is free.

Tea, coffee and cakes are available to buy. Donations are welcome and all proceeds will be given to the Ruthin Panto Society.
