A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD who always wanted to go to Disneyland now “can’t wait” after receiving a special invite to sing there.

Lili Cet Williams, year two pupil at Ysgol Carreg Emlyn, in Clocaenog, had gotten into the routine of singing practice with her grandmother Gwennan in the months leading up to her performance at this year’s Urdd Eisteddfod – but the plot was destined for a magical twist.

She has enjoyed singing ever since she was in playgroup, but proved she has real talent after winning county and regional Urdd competitions, qualifying for the year two singing solo national final in Cardiff on Tuesday, May 21.

Lili once again gave a perfect rendition, of the children’s song Mae Ddrwg Gen i’ (‘I’m Sorry’), before a big crowd on the Millenium Centre stage. She finished first place, but the Urdd panel felt she deserved to go one better.

Her mum, Elliw Williams and dad Huw said they were “absolutely shocked” to find out she was among just five winners revealed on the day to have special invites perform at Disneyland Paris next year.

“We couldn’t believe it when we found out,” Elliw said. “She performed in front of a big crowd, but she was excited and held her nerves really well; Huw and I certainly wouldn’t have done better!

“The judge awarded Lili the winner of the competition and then said, ‘Would you be able to perform the song again in Disneyland?’ It was a massive shock for her because she’s always wanted to go and now she’s really looking forward to it.”

The Urdd’s Young Welsh Talent Stars programme, launched a decade ago, has so far enabled 45 children to perform at Disney’s Welsh Festival, which celebrates the "land of the red dragon" on St David’s Day.

Lili, who will be joined by her parents and siblings Ceirad, 11, and Morgan, eight, said: “I can’t wait to meet Mickey Mouse and see the big castle!”
