LIKE the famous Manchester United youth team featuring Ryan Giggs and David Beckham which won the 1992 FA Youth Cup, pupils in Ruthin will sport a red kit this year.

Ysgol Borthyn has been sent 15 shirts, shorts and pairs of socks as part of the Premier League Primary Stars scheme run by sports charity Football Foundation in partnership with the Premier League. The scheme gives away free kits and provides teachers with curriculum resources to get children involved in sport.

It also runs competitions in which pupils set up their own PE lessons, pick up litter and write poetry.

Nick Perchard, head of community for the Premier League said: “The Premier League Primary Stars kit and equipment packs have been extremely well-received in the past and will provide a very welcome boost as we approach the end of the school year.

"We hope that coupled with the free downloadable online resources, we can inspire children to do their best in the classroom and on the sports field.”

Teleri Llwyd-Jones, Ysgol Borthyn headteacher, said: “The team is over the moon with their new kit. It has given them confidence to go out on the football field and try their very best to succeed.”
