A SIX-birdie blitz helped green energy business Hafod Renewables take the Ruthin-Pwllglas Golf Club sponsors challenge.
Hafod managing director David Jones led from the front as his four-man team had a run of five threes from their second hole - the ninth on the course – after starting on the hole they sponsor, the eighth.
Veteran former club captain Kim Webb, John Lewis and Hafod’s PR account manager Alistair Syme, of Ceidiog Communication, all weighed in as well, with Webb lacing an eight-iron to 10 feet at their 140-yard final hole for Syme to drill in the putt for a crucial birdie two.
That was enough for Hafod, who finished second last year, to clinch a narrow win over runners-up Ruthin Pre-cast Concrete, led by the big-hitting Allen Roberts, with Colin Jones Coal Merchants third.
Results: 1, Hafod Renewables (Dave Jones, John Lewis, Alistair Syme and Kim Webb) 60-5.2=54.8.
2, RPC (Allen Roberts, Derek Walters, Ian Hicks and Mike Brady) 61-5.4=55.6.
3, Colin Jones Coal (Colin Jones, Clive Davies, Neil Roberts and Dave Roberts) 64-6.2-57.8.
