A COMMUNITY memorial for ‘kind and gifted’ Olivia Alkir has officially opened in Ruthin.

Seventeen-year-old Olivia tragically died in a traffic accident last summer and she was the Deputy Head girl and an outstanding student at Ysgol Brynhyfryd, with a very bright future ahead of her.

To commemorate the life of the treasured student, Olivia’s wonderful family, friends and fellow students, with the help of the supportive communities and businesses of Ruthin, have created a memorial garden within the grounds of Ysgol Brynhyfryd in Ruthin – a tranquil place befitting the memory of a much-loved young lady who tragically died in a road traffic accident in June of this year.

The community memorial service and opening held at Ysgol Brynhyfryd on Friday and it was well attended by family, friends, fellow pupils, school staff and local community members and officials.

For valued contributions to Olivia’s special place, thanks go to P & A Fencing and Timber for the furniture, Sel Howatson for his time and effort and to Seven Oaks Garden Centre for the beautiful tree.

Manon Wilkinson, head of the sixth form at Ysgol Brynhyfryd, said: "Olivia is much missed and we hope that this special place will be a comfort to all who knew this very special young lady."
