A PRIMARY school in Denbighshire has closed today (Monday) in an attempt to stop a vomiting bug from spreading.

Ysgol Trefnant, Henlan Street near Denbigh, is undergoing a "deep clean" after a number of children and teachers fell ill.

Head Teacher Susan Van Loock took to social media to alert parents to the situation, whilst an official statement released by the school read: "We are aware that cases of stomach bugs are doing the rounds and a high number of our pupils and staff have fallen ill.

"As a result, we decided that it was in the best interest of the school and pupils to close on Monday, to try and prevent the number of pupils falling ill from escalating.

"We have also arranged a deep clean of the school purely as a precautionary measure. The school is expected to re-open as normal on Tuesday but any child who has had a vomiting bug is asked not to return for at least 48 hours from the last symptom.

“We would like to thank parents and guardians in advance for their co-operation”.

Symptoms of the bug were said to be similar to that of the norovirus infection - including coughing, high temperature, vomiting and diarrhoea.
