THE 40th annual celebration of pancake day is set to take place in Ruthin.

Ruthin Pancake Race will be held in St Peter's Square at midday on Tuesday, February 25 - also known as Shrove Tuesday.

Last year saw primary school pupils and adults armed with frying pans as they attempted to travail the race circuit while balancing their freshly-made crepes.

This year will be marked by the ringing of the 'pancake bell' at St Peter's Church in celebration of the restoration of the church bells last year.

The annual race has raised funds for local and national charities, and this year the chosen charity is Wales Air Ambulance.

A Ruthin Pancake Race spokesperson said: "The organisers hope to see as many people, adults and children taking part to raise as much money as possible for such a good cause."
