FOUR Vale of Clwyd students will spend time at one of the world's most prestigious universities later this year.

Ysgol Brynhyfryd sixth formers Elin Elias, Erin Swyn Williams, Cerys Edwards and Ifan Gwyn have been selected to attend the pre-college summer school scholarship at Harvard University, in Massachusetts, the United States.

While there, the Brynhyfryd students will be introduced to ‘university’ life while attending a variety of classes.

The two-week scholarship was secured by the students through the Seren Network, the Welsh Government university scheme that provides Wales’ most academically able sixth formers with opportunities at the best universities in the UK and abroad.

Only a small amount of students in Wales are admitted to the placement in any one year, worth $4,700 per student, marking a major success for these four students of Ysgol Brynhyfryd.

The Brynhyfryd students will join other Wales students to experience classes, off-campus excursions and extra-curricular activities – a truly unique experience and one that they will never forget.

Manon Wilkinson, the head of sixth form at Ysgol Brynhyfryd, said: “Our students are so hard working and are awarded such opportunities because of their dedication and perseverance in their studies.

"These students are the future and here at Ysgol Brynhyfryd is where we nurture and support them to achieve alongside the support and encouragement of the families.

"We are just so proud of them all and look forward to hearing about this wonderful experience."
