DENBIGHSHIRE County Council is reminding passengers that face coverings will be compulsory on public transport from July 27.

Those using public transport will be required to wear face coverings following a change in the law by the Welsh Government, and some bus operators have already brought this requirement in.

Regulations also apply to taxi journeys and it is recommended that face coverings should be made of three layers, but they do not need to be medical-grade face masks.

Cllr Brian Jones, the Council’s Lead Member for Waste, Transport and the Environment, said: “In line with a change in the law from the Welsh Government, we are reminding passengers of the need to wear a face covering while using public transport.

“Passengers need to be aware they will not be allowed to travel via bus or taxi if they are not wearing a face covering.

“It is important to remember the most effective way to protect yourself and others from infection is to follow social distancing rules, avoid touching surfaces and your face, as well as regular hand washing or sanitising.

“Anyone experiencing any of the symptoms of COVID-19, is required to self-isolate for seven days and get a test and until the test shows a negative result, you must not go out during this time, even with a face covering.”

There are some exemptions to the requirement to wear a face covering, for example younger children and those with disabilities, and passengers are asked to check with their operator before travelling.
