ST KENTIGERN hospice has given a rare insight into how they are coping as a huge fundraising drive is launched.

The St Asaph based hospice, which cares and supports patients with life-limiting conditions and their families across Denbighshire, East Conwy and West Flintshire, is running an urgent appeal for funds.

In response to the latest lockdown, the charity has had to close its cafe, shops and stop its face-to-face fundraising and cash-collections for the lottery.

A total of 60 per cent of their fundraising income has been lost.

Laura Ellis-Bartlett, fundraising manager at St Kentigern Hospice, said: “The last 12 months have been tough for many. The staff at the hospice have been working day and night to maintain its high standards of support for patients and families. This includes providing counselling sessions via the telephone and online, access to our ‘Hear and Now’ telephone services and many more.

“Our clinical team is currently being vaccinated against Covid-19 and the hospice staff and patients have been able to access regular Covid tests to ensure everyone’s safety.

“The hospice receives support from a variety of sources including grants and funding from the NHS. However, fundraising through our shops, café, events and donations still accounts for over 80 per cent of our income.

"We have been very fortunate to receive support from local businesses through donations of vital equipment and personal protective equipment to help us with our work during this time.

“We are extremely thankfully to our community who continue to fundraise and support the hospice,” Laura added.

“We have been overwhelmed by support for this appeal so far and the messages of support we have received from the community.

“Together, we can continue to raise the funds needed to support people now and in the future.

“Donations to this appeal will help us to continue our vital services for people with life limiting conditions and their families.”

Laura described working for St Kentigern as a "privilege".

"Knowing that we are able to give back to the community that has supported us for the last 25 years," she added.

"The bond that the staff, volunteers, patients and families share is something very special to be a part of.

"All donations to this appeal will help the hospice continue its work. We are extremely grateful for all of the support of our community. Their continued and unwavering support means the world to us here at St Kentigern Hospice."
