A FLOOD relief support group has been set up by Ruthin Town Council to help the town’s victims of the Storm Christoph flooding.

On Wednesday, January 20, parts of the town, including Clwyd Street, were badly affected as people had to be evacuated from their homes.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said at least 15 properties were affected.

Businesses, such as Tommy’s hair company, lost everything on the ground floor of their buildings as water levels rose throughout the day.

To help people and their businesses recover, at least partially financially, the support group has been set up.

Ruthin councillor Anne Roberts said that the sole purpose of the group is to ‘establish a flood relief fund’ to support victims in the town.

She added: “As soon as bank details for the fund are established, people wishing to make financial donations to the fund will be able to do so via BACS, cheque or cash.”

Members of the public will be informed in due course as to when the fund, set up according to Charity Commission Regulations, is officially launched.

This is just another example of the Ruthin community pulling together to help one another following the flood damage done to the town.

Firms such as IT Williams had donated sand bags during the incident and the clean-up process began immediately after the rainfall had stopped.

Cllr Roberts added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who have offered, and donated furniture and household goods, offered accommodation and other kindnesses, following the devastating floods in Ruthin.

“The response from our community has been overwhelming, and I’m sure my fellow councillors on Ruthin Town Council will join me in offering our heartfelt thanks to those who have helped in this awful situation - including the team from Meliden led by Brian Taylor.”
