Ten years ago today, a bride was getting ready for her moment in the spotlight, to walk down the aisle and say 'I do' to the man of her dreams.

She was also watching another bride share her special day with the world, as Kate Middleton married Prince William.

Emma Davies (nee Holden) and Ian Davies weren't to know when they planned their big day over a decade ago, that they would forever be sharing their anniversary with royalty.

The couple, then of Hightown, Wrexham, now living in Llangollen, who met through Facebook, exchanged their vows on Friday, April 29, 2011, at 12.30pm at Wrexham's St Giles Parish Church. They celebrated with a reception at the Wynnstay Hotel.

Ten years on, the Free Press caught up with Emma, 46, to see how life is with "soulmate" Ian, 45.

"We're still together, still in love like when we first met. He's my best friend, I couldn't be happier," said Emma, who had not long taken delivery of a dozen red roses from her husband to mark their special day.

Asking if the couple would be able to celebrate, Emma said Ian had surprised her with plans for tonight, as they were heading to The Three Eagles, in Llangollen, adding: "I was told not to prep tea, as we were going to have a date night."

It's not quite Benidorm, where the couple, who have been together 12 years, usually choose to celebrate the date but they are just as excited.

But there's no denying the romance is definitely still there.

"I'm happier than I've ever been," said Emma. "I do everything with Ian, I can talk to him about anything.

"Ten years later, when he walks through the door, I still get butterflies. I'd be lost without him."

And did lockdown put their love to the test?

Emma said they made the most of the situation: "It was family time, to be honest we really enjoyed it and it's time you'll never get back.

"We did the garden, had barbecues, and spent most of the time together. We didn't argue, everything we did was together, and that's still how it is to this day."

The couple, who have four children, Toby, eight, Noah, 10, Lee, 18 and Aleah, 19, say it doesn't feel like 10 years, with Emma adding: "It's flown by."

At the time of writing, the sun was out but even if the heavens open tonight, I can't help but get the feeling nothing can put a dampener on this couple's special day.
