TWO people have been hospitalised after a collision on the A5.

North Wales Police (NWP) said the incident occurred just west of Cerrigydrudion just after 9am on Friday and urged motorists to avoid the are. 

Traffic was affected between Betws-y-Coed and Corwen.

A NWP spokesperson said: "We received a call at 9.08am this morning, reporting a two vehicle RTC on the A5 near the Saw Mill, west of Cerrigydrudion.

"Officers are currently in attendance alongside colleagues from the Welsh Ambulance Service, North Wales Fire and Rescue and Helimed. The road remains closed whilst we deal with the incident and motorists are advised to avoid the area until further notice."

The road was shut in both directions but reopened shortly before midday.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called on Friday  at approximately 09.02 am to reports of a road traffic accident involving two vehicles on the A5 near Cerrigydrudion.

"We responded with one rapid response vehicle, two emergency ambulances and our crews were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance. Two patients were transported by road ambulance to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Hospital.”
