A POPULAR event on the Llangollen calendar has been cancelled for 2021.

The organisers of town's Faery Festival say they are postponing this year's event in favour of a 'proper' one in 2022.

The festival, which had initially been planned for August 14 and 15, is believed to be the largest of its kind in the UK, attracting thousands of people to Llangollen Pavilion each year.

It offers a range of different activities to its guests - from wing making to storytelling - as well as rides on the land train and plenty of music, including at the Grand Faery Ball with which it traditionally culminates.

The decision to postpone this year's Faery Festival was made in order to keep people safe.

A statement read: "With support from stallholders and regular visitors alike, I am postponing this event in favour of a 'proper' Faery Festival next year.

"Apart from not putting on anything half-hearted that prejudices my event's future, I'm concerned that the post-lockdown emergence has gone into a free-fall for the for the sake of boosting the economy with scant regard to people's health. So, sit tight - next year will be our biggest yet!"
