A VIRTUAL open day will be taking place at a Bala-based extra care facility next week.

Awel Y Coleg will be doing a virtual tour of the site between 11am and 12pm on Wednesday, July 21.

The tour will take place over Zoom and a short video will showcase the very best of the scheme and guests will have a chance to ask any questions.

Siân Ellis works as a senior older person's officer at Grŵp Cynefin, who run Awel Y Coleg.

She said: "Awel y Coleg is the perfect option for older people wanting to maintain their independence."

After temporarily freezing applications to live at the Bala site during covid, Grŵp Cynefin has been welcoming new tenants again and is inviting anyone interested to the online event.

Siân added: “Individuals and couples have been moving in over the last couple of months. The opportunity to live in their own flat with support available and to be surrounded by people of a similar age with linked and varied interests and hobbies is a key factor.

“As well as people who have lived in Bala or the surrounding villages, we have also had tenants move from across Gwynedd.

“There is genuinely a community here that people enjoy being a part of.

“Many think they have to wait until they are ill or a lot older in order to make that step and move out of their home, often into a care home.

“An extra care facility is an ideal stepping stone: you maintain your independence while having tailored support and less worry on tasks such as heavy gardening or maintenance around the home.

“In addition, there are various regular activities to keep tenants engaged and active if they want to get involved.”

The virtual tour will be held over Zoom, but if anyone cannot access this and would still like to find out more, please contact Grŵp Cynefin.

To register your interest in attending the event, please email post@grwpcynefin.org.

Siân added: “We are really looking forward to welcoming people to this event. Face-to-face meetings to view the location in person are also possible by prior appointment, and requests should be made via the same email address.”
