WREXHAM AFC's Hollywood co-owner has said that his ambitions for the club are no joke.

Ryan Reynolds that he and co-chairman Rob McElhenney were focussed on "promotion, promotion, promotion".

Ryan and Rob completed the takeover of the club in February.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, he said that the the growth of the community in Wrexham was a fundamental part of their ownership.

The pair have already made supportive gestures to the town's food bank, pubs and individual fans.

Wrexham have appointed manager Phil Parkinson, whose most recent previous job was at Sunderland, and the club is now gearing up for its 14th season of non-League football.

Having narrowly missed out on the National League play-offs last season, the focus for all is getting the club back into the league "where we belong".

Ryan told the Telegraph: "We cannot wait to start the new season... We're going to be over there all the time."

Asked by the Telegraph whether the takeover was a "joke" his answer was emphatic.

"I am proud to say it was never a joke," he said.

"We take the growing and building of both Wrexham AFC and Wrexham the community very seriously. In a town like Wrexham, if the football club is going to do very well, the community has to do very well."

He added: "It is one of the oldest football clubs on the planet, it's a hard-working town filled with incredibly passionate and interesting people…

"We're not attempting to be the smartest people in the room - there are people in Wrexham who know more about football than I will ever know."

The mission to elevate Wrexham AFC has already begun, with work underway to improve The Racecourse ground.

New shirts have been unveiled, and high profile sponsor ship deals with TikTok, Expedia, Aviation American Gin, and Ifor Williams Trailers confirmed.

Now it just remains to see if the enthusiasm and investment can translate into results on the pitch.
