RUTHIN TOWN FC remain unbeaten in the 21/22 JD Cymru North season after claiming a fine victory away at Colwyn Bay.

Phil Hudson and Tommy Holmes’ side began their latest tier two campaign with two 1-1 draws with Penrhyncoch and Holywell Town respectively.

But, Saturday afternoon saw them pick up their first three points of the season - in front of a bumper crowd of 550 spectators at the Four Crosses Arena in Colwyn Bay.

Thomas Mann scored the only goal of the game to secure a big three points for the away side against one of the title favourites.

Bay began the match on top, causing many threats to the Ruthin defence - Charlie Williams in particular standing out for the Seagulls.

Tom McCready’s effort from long range saw Ruthin keeper Ryan Goldsworth nearly beaten before Robbie Parry nearly put the home team in front.

After a threatening first half from Bay, Ruthin began to awaken more in the second half.

Josh Jones scrambled a glorious chance to put the visitors ahead with his shot saved well by keeper Andy Coughlin.

The Seagulls then had an effort ruled out for offside. The players and coaches had been celebrating after McCready’s free-kick was headed home but the flag was up.

Summer signing Sam Jones then went close for Bay before ex-Ruthin forward nearly scored against his former club.

The defining moment of the match resulted in a smash and grab for Ruthin Town who claimed a huge three points with just ten minutes to go on the clock.

Substitute Dafydd Evans whipped a great corner into the box which was met by Thomas man who slotted the ball home into the bottom right-hand corner.

The result sees Ruthin move up to sixth with five points on the board after just three games played - a decent start for the club.

Taking to Twitter after the match, Ruthin Town manager Phil Hudson praised his side, writing: “A great shift from the lads today. We were worthy winners.”

The club will next face Buckley Town away on Tuesday, August 10.
