A YELLOW warning for thunderstorms is in place for Wrexham and parts of Denbighshire and Flintshire this weekend.

The Met Office warns the region is likely to be hit by heavy rain and thunderstorms on Saturday.

The yellow warning covers parts of Denbighshire, including Llangollen and areas around Ruthin.

Heavy rain is likely to fall from 7am in the region, but the warning for thunderstorms is in place from 12pm until 10pm.

There is a chance of disruption and flooding.

The Met Office said: "Many places missing the worst, but heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause some transport disruption and perhaps flooding.

"Following rain overnight and during the morning, heavier showers and thunderstorms are likely to break out by late morning. These becoming more widespread into the afternoon, with torrential downpours possible in a few places, bringing around 20 mm of rain in less than an hour and 30-40 mm in a couple of hours.

"Lightning and hail may prove additional hazards in some locations."
