BALA TOWN FC sailed through to the fourth round of the FAW Welsh Cup - where a trip to fellow JD Cymru Premier club Haverfordwest County awaits them.

Colin Caton's side eased passed visitors Pontypridd Town with a 5-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Bala brought the game to the visitors in the opening few minutes and Dave Edwards almost gave them the perfect start when his thunderous header struck the bar from Paul Rutherford’s corner.

However, it was skipper Chris Venables who opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Edwards had been brought down in the box.

The Lakesiders continued to push for more in ruthless fashion following their opener, spurred on by their historic 17-1 victory over Brymbo in the last round.

The attacking intent was quickly rewarded with a goal when Bala forced the ball into the opposition’s net for the second time as Pontypridd's Jordan Knott fumbled the ball into his own goal.

It was then Brad Bauress who continued where he left off in the Welsh Cup, adding another to his tally having scored a hat-trick in the last round.

The ball fell kindly for the midfielder to control and casually find the bottom corner giving Bala a three-goal advantage.

In the second half, Bala again put the visitors under significant pressure, and goalkeeper Morgan Davies was forced to pull off a great reflex save to deny Nathan Peate.

A corner that followed from that saw Steven Leslie’s backheel effort go in.

It was another Welsh Cup thrashing by the Lakesiders who showed as Paul Rutherford made it five with his composed touch and finish.

Bala will now face Haverfordwest away in the fourth round on the weekend of October 15/16.
