A CANCER survivor from Denbighshire says she is 'overwhelmed' and 'honoured' to have been shortlisted for a prestigious ITV Pride of Britain Award.

Ali Alcock from Corwen has become something of a serial fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support – a charity that stood by her side throughout her own battle with cervical cancer in 2015.

She had no symptoms and was only diagnosed following a routine smear test.

Just this year alone, the 43-year-old has managed to collect more than £18,000 for the charity through a range of fundraisers, including a daring wingwalk.

Her efforts have also seen her become an ambassador for Macmillan who she now holds very close to her heart.

Now, to top off what has already been an incredible fundraising year in 2021 for Ali, who works as a social worker for Denbighshire County Council, she has made the final four in the ITV Fundraiser of the Year category for Wales.

If she is successful in that category, she will go on to appear at the Pride of Britain Awards on behalf of Wales.

The event celebrates the achievements of some truly remarkable and inspirational individuals.

Ali has recently been filming with the ITV crew and her story is set to be aired on ITV news this Thursday evening (September 30) at 6pm.

She said: "I's so glad I can finally share this amazing news, I can’t quite believe it but I have made the final four for a Pride of Britain Award. To say I’m overwhelmed, excited, honoured and very much so humbled is an understatement.

"I have been fit to burst for three weeks as I was not allowed to share the news until today!

"I have to say thank you so much to Lucy Ruffy for taking the time out to nominate me - I truly, truly appreciate that, it means the absolute world.

"I had a ball a couple of weeks back filming with the ITV crew and the footage should be shown on Thursday, but this is subject to change.

"I am a passionate ambassador and fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support as a six year survivor and having had first hand experience of their invaluable support and services I truly know what their support means to people living with cancer and their families, friends, carers.

"I pledged when I got the all clear that I would do all I could to support and fundraise for them….. the Big C events/challenges have become more established and grown with each year that passes and the support and money raised is phenomenal."

This year's fundraising has been even more significant for Ali as her father was diagnosed with cancer earlier in 2021, although he has now been given the all clear.

She added: "I pledged I would double my annual target of £5,000 and so far this year we haven’t only doubled it, we have more than tripled it at an outstanding £18,000!

"This year we have done a Miles for Macmillan Hike, Quiz Night, Masterpieces for Macmillan Art Exhibition, Guys and Molls Fundraiser in Chirk, Macmillan Coffee Morning, Wing Walk for Weeksy, the amazing Corwen Print that is for sale now and numerous competitions and I’m not done yet.

"As I always say, I never do this alone - so a massive thank you must go to all the Big C Crews over the years, all who have sponsored, supported, donated or taken on the events and challenges with me.

"To my lovely home town of Corwen, communities around Denbighshire and special shout out to the Chirk community thank you so much for the continued support."
