A DENBIGHSHIRE charity is bidding for a cash boost from the Tesco Community Grants initiative.

Tesco works with community charity Groundwork to run its community funding scheme, which sees grants of up to £1,500, £1,000 and £500 awarded to local community projects.

Three groups in every community have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote.

Corwen's South Denbighshire community Partnership (SDCP) is one of the groups on the shortlist.

The grant will go towards providing school holiday fun activities and health snack packs for each child attending these sessions during school holidays in the Dee Valley of South Denbighshire, our aim is to support children’s wellbeing and help them to thrive in their communities.

Sally Lloyd Davies, Community Engagement and Development Manager from South Denbighshire Community Partnership said “ We really hope people vote for our cause which will help us support families and children in our communities.

"During the recent summer holidays we were able to work with the local authority to provide access to weekly fun outdoor play sessions for families and children in Corwen and Llangollen and thanks to local organisations Corwen FC. WHOLEBAKE Ltd and BERWYN LODGE 9999 RAOB GLE we were able to provide 345 x healthy snack packs to children attending the sessions.

"Feedback gathered from those attending have identified these sessions are really needed to help support children’s wellbeing so this grant would really help us to continue to be able to provide access to these sessions and provide healthy snack packs to the children in our communities”

Voting is open in all Tesco stores in October, November and December and customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out each time they shop.

Tesco’s Community Grants scheme has already provided over £85 million to more than 36,000 projects across Britain. Tesco customers get the chance to vote for three different groups every time they shop. Every three months, when votes are collected, three groups in each of Tesco’s regions will be awarded funding.
