BALA Town endured a day to forget in their latest JD Cymru Premier match, being held to a 1-1 draw by bottom-of-the-table Cefn Druids.

A frustrating afternoon at Maes Tegid on Saturday saw the Lakesiders hand the Ancients their first point of the 21/22 top-flight season.

Colin Caton's Bala were on the attack from the first whistle with Dave Edwards almost giving them the perfect start.

The visitors then went straight down the other end and nearly took the lead themselves, Emmanuel Agyemang breaking through before dragging his shot wide.

But, it was the combination of captain Chris Venables and Edwards which eventually saw Bala score, with the latter on hand to poke home his sixth goal of the season.

With little to report from the first half, it was the Lakesiders who entered the break 1-0 up.

But Bala were punished early on in the second half when goalscorer Edwards gave away the ball to Agyemang, who unleashed Charley Edge who squared the ball to Niall Flint to level.

Bradley Bauress went close for Bala and Edwards even hit the post but they just couldn't find that all-important second goal. Not even a spectacular bicycle kick from Venables could break the deadlock as it rattled back out off the bar.

The draw meant that the gap between league-leaders TNS and Bala, who are in second, stands at six points.

Before the match, Colin Caton was awarded the JD Cymru Premier's Manager of the Month prize for September and Edwards was given the Player of the Month award.
