A BUTCHERS with shops in Denbighshire and Flintshire has had two of it's tastiest sausages shortlisted in a competition alongside the very best bangers in Wales.

Daniel Morris Butchers has sites in both Denbigh and Mold.

Staff there are currently celebrating being shortlisted in Hybu Cig Cymru's (Meat Promotion Wales) 'Put Your Best Sausage Forward 2021' competition, with their Denbigh Plum Chutney and Ginger Beer sausages having been given recognition.

The award-winning family butchers is owned and run by Daniel Morris, who has been in the business since he was a teenager.

He said: “We are honestly delighted to have our sausages shortlisted amongst the best sausages in Wales this year.

“I started off as a Saturday boy in a butchers shop, and I enjoyed it, always wanting more and more work until I was offered an apprenticeship. Twenty years on, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity take over a butchers shop of my own in Denbigh in 2019, and despite Covid coming at a bad time I am delighted with how it has all been going.

"We have remained very busy, and even had a chance to open a second shop in Mold earlier this year. I am lucky to be able to say that I honestly enjoy it just as much as now when I did when I was fifteen, sixteen years old!

“What’s key to our business is sourcing our meat with care from local suppliers, and often my dad’s own farm. It’s a team effort here – my mum makes the scotch eggs and pies – and I have a fantastic team working with me behind the counter. We know our customers and can provide them with whatever they want really – a particular size or type of cut, or cooking advice. You just don’t get that at a supermarket.

“Our Denbigh Plum Chutney and Ginger Beer Sausages are truly unique sausages, incorporating local Denbigh Plum, which is a heritage variety with PDO status. This plum is thought to have been introduced in 1785 and it is the only native Welsh plum. Combined with punchy ginger beer and locally sourced pork, they have a real depth of flavour and I’m very proud to be using these special local ingredients to make a real Denbigh sausage.”

The winner of the Put Your Best Sausage Forward 2021 competition will be announced on the brand new Porc Blasus website and social media channels in the next month.
