HUNDREDS of runners have been putting on a sweat to raise funds for a worthy cause.

More than £1,000 was recently raised at Ruthin School's Races for Life.

With fundraising events being cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions, many charities have been starved of donations so this was our chance to start raising funds for Cancer Research UK.

This was a fantastic occasion with an incredible 265 runners taking part.

There were prizes for the first runners back, as well as prizes for the best fancy-dress competitors.

The 5k Race for Life was set up on our school grounds and to aid social distancing, there were two events, starting at 3pm and 4pm respectively.

"We were thrilled to see so many families of our local students join in with the 4pm race too!" said a school spokesperson.

Each runner was asked to donate £5 to Cancer Research UK, although many donated more, and this gave a fantastic total so far of £1,141.78.

The winner was Ryan, while other notable finishers were Mr Hewer and Mr Perry and Mr Bartlet, who completed a Spanish physics paper as they walked the route.

There was also some amazing fancy dress costumes and students fully embraced the spirit of the event.
