Ruthin primestock sale - November 16

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 2,518 prime lambs to £150 / 314ppk and 497 ewes to £179.

Prime lambs (auctioneer - Elfor Morris):

A good entry of 2,518 lambs forward with a better than expected trade.

SQQ 267ppk or £108 per head all through.

Again, the trade of the day were the 1,387 medium lambs at 271ppk, nevertheless standards averaging 37kg and returning a £98.50 per head average looked well sold.

Heavy lambs back a penny or two perhaps on the week, but still either side of the £130 mark.

A flying trade once again, with keen demand for all types of ewes.

A total of 497 forward with an average of £76.81.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 880 prime lambs to £141 / 291.2ppk and 523 ewes to £134.

Prime lambs (auctioneer - Rich Lloyd):

A total of 880 prime lambs forward met a very good trade and an SQQ of 255.6ppk.

Welsh lambs were just a bit harder to sell and they were slightly back on the week, but still a very good trade and demand continued to be plentiful.

Store cattle (auctioneer - Rich Lloyd):

A good weekly entry of 137 store cattle.

A good show of quality cattle forward and plenty of demand for the type of cattle on offer.

Some of the highlights included 71 steers forward averaging £1,083.80p.

There was a good entry of calves forward with a strong trade throughout.

Char hfrs up to £430, BB hfrs up to £365, BB bulls to £360.

Top price went to R J Williams, Hartley Farm who achieved £460 for British Blue bull calves.

Other prices: Lim bull to £350; Baz bulls to £255; AA bulls to £245.

Weanlings (auctioneer - Glyn Owens):

A seasonal entry forward with suckler-bred stirks in keen demand selling up to £890 for a BB.

Other prices: 7 month Lim bullock to £880; 6 month Char bullock to £805; 6 month Char heifer to £745; 8 month BB heifer to £610.

Store lambs (auctioneer - Elfor Morris):

There was an excellent show of 2,550 store lambs forward and an outstanding trade throughout.

It was a similar average to the previous week at £71 all through, but trade was stronger on short-term lambs, probably up by £5-£10 per head.

Long-term lambs were a consistent trade generally from £48 to £83 per head.

The strongest Welsh lambs to £69.

Top price of £125 went to Arwel Jones, Beidiog for Texel ewe lambs.

Texel ram lambs to £117; Cheviot ram lambs to £108; Lleyn ram lambs to £102; Lleyn ewe lambs to £70.
