GRITTERS will be on the road in Denbighshire following yellow and amber weather warnings by the Met Office.

Denbighshire County Council said its gritting crews will be in operation ahead of the forecasted weather, which includes potential sleet and snow.

The yellow warning, in place from midnight until 6pm on Saturday, cautions of possible injuries from flying debris, damage to trees and temporary structure, as well as the closure of some roads and bridges.

A council spokesperson said: "The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind until 6pm on Saturday.

"Given the forecast for potential sleet and snow it is likely the Council’s gritting crews will be in operation, however lying snow is not expected."

An amber warning for ‘a spell of very windy weather’ has also been issued for parts of North Wales from 12am until 9am on Saturday.

That warning says flying debris is 'likely', damage to tress and temporary buildings 'probable', while longer journeys on public transport are expected to be cancelled.

Denbighshire, Conwy, Anglesey and Gwynedd are among the regions likely to be affected.

The Met Office said: “High winds associated with Storm Arwen are expected to cause some travel disruption and damage.

“Storm Arwen will bring very strong northerly winds into coastal parts of Wales and parts of western England (on) Friday night and into Saturday.

“Gusts of 60 to 70 mph are expected in coastal areas, with gusts in excess of 70 mph in a few places.”
