A MEIRIONNYDD team has been doing its bit during a major challenge.

The Farmers’ Union of Wales' Meirionnydd team and friends of the union took to the fresh January air and led a special walk around Trawsfynydd Lake in aid of the ongoing #Run1000 challenge.

The challenge, #Run1000, is calling on people to sign up to be part of one of five teams – England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and New Zealand.

The competition, which takes place until January 31, sees each team run or walk 1,000 miles, with the nation that reaches the milestone first announced as the winner.

The idea is for individuals to sign up and contribute as many miles as they can during January, whether that be one or 100.

Adding an extra 8.35 miles for team Wales, the Meirionnydd group enjoyed not just the spectacular views around the lake but also used the opportunity to chat and share the load.

FUW Meirionnydd county executive officer Huw Jones said: “Exercise does wonders for your mental health and as daylight is still in a slightly short supply, getting out into the fresh air is really important to maintain good mental health.

“As a team we really enjoyed walking around the lake, adding to the total mileage of team Wales and chatting away, sharing our thoughts, worries and concerns.

"I can only encourage others to join the team, sign-up and get involved with this great challenge.”
