THE MP for Clwyd South has paid tribute to the 'remarkable life' of Her Majesty The Queen on what is the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne.

Sunday, February 6 marked 7 decades since Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne.

In her Platinum Jubilee message to the nation this year, the Queen backed the Duchess of Cornwall as Queen Camilla, shaping the future of the monarchy on her historic milestone.

The Queen is the first British monarch in history to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee.

She overtook her great-great grandmother Queen Victoria as the country’s longest reigning monarch in September 2015, passing her ancestor’s 63 years and 216 days.

Clwyd South MP Simon Baynes paid tribute to both her life and character on the 70th anniversary.

He said: "The Queen means so much to us all and, as she marks today the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne, we can celebrate her remarkable life and character and thank her for being a constant and comfort in our lives."
