WITH Covid restrictions gradually being eased, plans are in the pipeline to boost a Vale of Clwyd town.

Live music will once again be a feature in Ruthin, while a campaign will look at the issue of people urinating in public in the town.

Ruthin and District Pub Watch is spearheading this campaign and chairman Dafydd Vaughan said: "As we move forward, it is also important that we are involved in the education of individuals who have made some minor mistakes as well.

"It is important to us that residents of Ruthin feel their rights to their own personal enjoyments can be upheld and have confidence in Ruthin & District Pub Watch to deal with situations that might arise where this enjoyment may be disregarded by patrons to our pubs.

"Specifically, the act of public urination is one that we must address and provide a clear message to anyone who thinks that peeing in the street, or in someone’s garden, to be acceptable as being very much mistaken.

"This month posters will be displayed in all of our members pubs informing people to how seriously we take this matter. It has been agreed between all members that an automatic one-month ban will be issued to anyone caught urinating in public.

"North Wales Police are backing Ruthin & District Pub Watch’s campaign and will be given permission to issue the one-month ban to any offender caught at the incident as well as any other penalties NWP have in their power to issue."

Mr Vaughan added: "This subject might generate a snigger from some and possible outrage from others who feel it is too much, but we agree that behaviour like this is just Taking The Pi** when all of our establishments have toilet facilities, there is no excuse.

"We will all continue to work hard to ensure a warm welcome is given to all who wish to enjoy themselves in our Ruthin pubs."

In more positive news, music will be returning to the town later this year.

"Now that the last two years of Covid restrictions are beginning to ease, we are re-launching our ‘Ruthin Goes Live’ campaign this summer," said Mr Vaughan.

"This will see several regular nights of live music being performed in multiple venues across Ruthin from talented musicians from our region.

"The campaign wishes to create a fun and lively atmosphere for all to enjoy as well as providing a space to support artists in our area who, like many, have found the last two years to be an incredible struggle.

"Venues will provide a mix of music styles and will stagger performances times across the ‘Ruthin Goes Live’ nights to allow music fans to catch as many artists as possible."

Details of future events can be found on the Ruthin Goes Live Facebook page.

"In addition, after our last meeting, we are resurrecting the Ruthin Darts League on a Friday nights; which hasn’t been seen in Ruthin for nearly 20 years," said Mr Vaughan.

"A mini-league is set to begin on March 18 and we encourage players of all standards to sign up to your local pub team in Ruthin or surrounding village pubs before that date."
