RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 776 prime hoggets to £132 / 300ppk and 203 ewes to £150.

Prime hoggs (auctioneer - Rich Lloyd):

A total of 776 prime hoggets forward were a better show than expected, with fewer about in various centres over the week.

SQQ of 252.4ppk.

Top priced: 53kg at £132 by RDG Hughes, Ty Cerrig; 55kg at £130 by HJ & FJ Williams, Maes Gadfa; 55kg at £130 by Dylan Hughes, Ty Cerrig.

Top priced per kilo: 40kg at 300ppk by TB & M Davies, Nant y Gau; 42kg at 285.7ppk by R & E Williams & Son, Hendre, Betws GG; 41kg at 282.9ppk by D S Fulkner, Penlan.

Another pleasing sale and more are required weekly.

St Asaph livestock auction - February 17

A TOTAL of 2,179 prime hoggs, cull ewes and prime cattle were forward.

Some 1,687 prime hoggs sold to 333p/kg or £215/head. Average - 262.19p/kg.

Meanwhile, 373 cull ewes sold to £141/head / Average £78.45/head and 41 cull rams sold to £140/head / Average £95.93/head.

In addition, 35 prime heifers sold to 309p/kg or £1869.45/head (average 259.06p/kg), 23 prime steers sold to 312p/kg or £1961/head (average 262.05p/kg), seven prime young bulls sold to 295p/kg or £1757.70/head (average 262.69p/kg) and six OTM heifers sold to 249p/kg or £1419.30/head (average 203.46p/kg).

Seven OTM steers sold to 213p/kg or £1491/head, average - 191.71p/kg.

Store cattle (auctioneer - Rich Lloyd):

A good weekly show of store cattle for the time of year with an entry of 150 store cattle forward.

A very good show on offer and a well deserved trade.

Heifers:

A total of 54 heifers entered with an overall average £1115.28.

Toping the heifers was a 21 month Lim from H W Hughes, Foel Fawr at £1430.

Majority of cattle comprised of dairy types which met a buoyant trade throughout with strong demand for both bullocks and heifers.

Good numbers entered already for next week.

Top price went to Jones, Carreg Coediog selling an 8 month old Lim bullock to £965.

Others: 9 month Lim heifer to £795; 7 month Charolais heifer to £700; 11 month old dairy bred BB bullock £655; 8 month old Charolais bullock to £950; 4 month old Hereford heifers to £310.

Calves (auctioneer - Dafydd Parry):

Quality calves forward met a blistering trade.

Top price went to Evans, Grugor Ucha for a BB bullock selling to £470.

Fewer ewe and lambs couples with weather conditions not favourable.
