TWO Vale of Clwyd boxers have demonstrated their talents in the ring.

Earlier this month, two Denbigh Boxing Club fighters performed with great skill during a well-attended show at the Poulton Victoria Sports and Social Club, in Wallasey.

First up was Tim Atyeo, having his first contest in his life at the age of 39. This was a brave thing to do and he trained very hard for the bout.

He also had the problem of his original opponent dropping out at the last moment and instead he gave away weight and came up against the very experienced Birmingham boxer Isaac Gibbs.

Even though it was his first fight, Tim did not let the emotions of the event get to him, keeping to his recently learned boxing skills and he came to no harm and gained a draw.

In fact, the consensus of opinion was that he perhaps deserved to win.

Boxing is a very tough and frightening sport and Tim was amazing in how he held himself together and boxed like someone who had been boxing for years - not like someone having his first fight.

The star of the night and topping the bill was Joe Roberts, having his fifth contest, a return with teak tough Rhyl fighter James Sweetman.

Joe has recently improved so much that he simply outclassed the Rhyl boxer.

All four rounds were a boxing masterclass against a amazingly tough, always dangerous and aggressive opponent.

He kept the fight at long range where his jab repeatedly landed on Sweetman's bloodied face.

Sweetman would not be denied and pressed forwards all through the contest, but he just could not trap Roberts, who mixed an assortment of punches to tie up James when he got in close.

Roberts was definitely the best boxer on the bill and he won a deserved points decision.
