COMPLAINTS of incidents of dog fouling in a Vale of Clwyd town have been made.

Residents in Denbigh have reported incidents of dog mess being left on pavements in a number of areas in the town.

Among the areas are Post Office Lane, Middle Lane and Beacons Hill.

A spokesperson for Denbighshire County Council said: “The majority of dog owners act responsibly and we would like to thank them for ensuring our communities remain clean and attractive for our residents.

“However, we are aware of complaints of dog fouling around areas in Denbigh and we want to make it clear that irresponsible dog owners are in breach of the Public Space Protection Order and could receive a £100 fixed penalty notice.

“District Enforcement have increased the number of patrols around the Denbigh area, in response to an increased number of complaints."

The spokesperson added: “Our officers have reported that children are often being left in charge with dogs by their parents, but not been given dog poo bags, or advised to stay off marked sports pitches in the area.

"We ask that parents do make sure their children are aware of the laws and only let their children take out their family pet by themselves if they are old enough to clean up after the dog in their charge and understand where their dog is allowed to go.

“The council encourages people who witness this to contact us with information so we are able to target our enforcement patrols.

“To report a dog owner not clearing up after their pet, please provide a description of the person, a description of the dog as well as the time and location of the offence.

“All litter bins and your black bin at home can be used to deposit dog mess which is bagged and tied and free dog bags can be collected from the council’s one-stop shops.”

Denbigh Lower councillor Mark Young, Denbighshire's lead member for planning, public protection and safer communities, said: “The majority of dog owners act responsibly and the council would like to thank them for ensuring our communities remain clean and attractive for our residents.

"Leaving dog mess is a unacceptable blight on our communities, and reports on this have increased across the authority.

"I urge residents to report any incident of dog fouling to: www.denbighshire.gov.uk/en/environmental-health/dog-issues/report-a-dog-related-issue.aspx"
