A LARGE number of enquiries have been made in the Vale of Clwyd about the UK Government's 'Homes for Ukraine' scheme.

Secretary of State for Levelling Up, housing and communities, Michael Gove MP, last week launched a webpage for sponsors to record their interest, ahead of phase one of the scheme opening for applications last Friday.

The 'Homes for Ukraine' scheme is allowing individuals, charities, community groups and businesses in the UK to bring Ukrainians to safety – including those with no family ties to the UK.

Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies said: “I welcome the UK Government’s ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme.

"As the humanitarian crisis has intensified, ministers and officials have been working to establish a scheme which meets the needs of those fleeing invasion.

"I am delighted that there have been over 120,000 expressions of interest in supporting Ukrainian citizens through the scheme, including over 10,000 from Wales.

“I have received a high number of enquiries from local residents and charitable groups wishing to support the ongoing humanitarian efforts, including those wishing to send essential items, house refugees and drive to nearby countries to collect families.

"The generosity of our community is outstanding and, as the Homes for Ukraine scheme progresses, I know that there will be a warm welcome for those refugees in our area."

Dr Davies added: “If anybody has family or friends in Ukraine who require assistance, I would encourage them to contact me directly.”
